Rugby Labour Party Renew Rugby Together
Debbie Bannigan MP candidate for Rugby spent the afternoon discussing issues at GE in #Rugby with the Shadow Defence Secretary Nia Griffith MP.
The Unite the union team, who are fighting an excellent campaign to keep this strategically important factory open, were also in attendance. Debbie Bannigan told the Shadow Defence Secretary that GE’s proposal to close would be catastrophic for the UK’s defence supply chain.
Both Debbie and Unite were at pains to say that Rugby could ill afford the loss of 197 high quality engineering jobs.
Debbie and Nia agreed that instead of sitting back and allowing GE to close the factory, the Government, the MoD and our MP should be fighting with every fibre of their being to make sure this capability is maintained, nurtured and developed for the future. Debbie Bannigan said, “Once it’s gone, it’s gone for good. It’s our town’s heritage. It should be our town’s future too.”
Tweet from Nia Griffith Mp:
Just been to visit GE factory in Rugby which makes engines for our Royal Navy. Shocking that the Tories are standing by as this vital facility faces closure. Our @UKLabour candidate @Debbie_Bannigan and trade union colleagues fighting hard to save these high-skilled jobs.
