I’m quoted in the Rugby Observer talking about the rise in crime in Rugby and how overstretched our police officers are.

In just a year, in Warwickshire, robbery is up by 26 per cent, drugs related crime by 12 per cent and theft by five per cent.

Our MP dismisses this as down to better recording of crime. I don’t think so. And I don’t think the folks round here who are having cars broken into, seeing off rogue traders on their doorsteps and coping with antisocial behaviour in our streets and parks would agree with him either.

Meanwhile…

GE manufacturing threatened with closure.  Utterly dreadful news for Rugby families who rely on GE for high quality jobs and apprenticeships.  I’ll keep working with the Unite team and GE to reverse these plans.

Shocking that our MP seemed to know nothing about it when he had a little love-in with the Secretary of State for Defence in the House of Commons last week.  His praise for a bright future for manufacturing in Rugby seems a bit hollow now.

Jeremy was in Rugby at the Weekend talking to GE about this Crisis.  Additionally, he came to meet Labour voters and talk about creativity, optimism and community.

We are still catching up with Thank Yous to everyone who made yesterday’s People Powered Meeting with Jeremy Corbyn such a success. If I didn’t get a message to you yet – sorry – but feel free to DM Debbie!

Can we also quickly give a shout out to all the parents who brought kids and tiny babies along. Thank you (and them!) for being there, and for their patience! They wriggle and giggle and cry and chat but that’s totally cool – we are a children, baby and parent/carer friendly space at Rugby Labour!

More later – gotta get out on the #labourdoorstep now – but for the time being, thank you!

Debbie and the Rugby Labour Team
