Your Local Labour Councillors

Your local elected Labour Borough Councillors for Newbold & Brownsover are: Ram Srivastava & Jim Ellis (Borough Council) and for the Boughton Road area and Tech Drive: Sarah Feeney (Warwickshire Council). Now the pandemic is becoming easier to navigate, we are restarting our street surgeries in the hope of touching base on local issues that pertain to you: So far we have tackled issues relating to river flooding, litter, traffic, bus stops, ASB and crime in the local area and worked with local authorities to invest in solutions to issues that have bothered local residents in the last difficult year or so.

Reservoir Road area resurfacing

Sarah, Jim & Ram took a good look at the pavements of the streets off Reservoir road/Boughton Road and alerted WCC as to the rapidly deteriorating state.  “We are really happy with the works that have taken place”, said Jim Ellis (Borough) “since it will make access safer, especially for disabled & Elderly residents”.  “We are really grateful to WCC for the speed of the work, even where it did make life a little bit awkward for some, but it is massively improved – for which we were glad to help,” said Sarah.

Railway Terrace: pavement & carriage resurfacing

Works have been in progress to improve the junctions along Craven Road and Manor Road – so the carriageway has been closed for a few days.  Work was undertaken with diversions in place in this busy area. I have also taken a good walk around the area overlapping Brownsover and Benn and observed where the obvious issues are and have filed reports to the County and Borough Council where Jim and Rams responsibility dictates, said County Cllr Sarah Feeney.

Community Clean ups

Jim and Ram have been working to undertake community clean ups with volunteer organisations across the whole of their Ward – Brownsover all the way through to Newbold.  “There has been a lot to do during lockdown,” said Jim, “we have been really lucky to have various community groups form to take on the litter menace”.  “Meanwhile, we always alert RBC to where we find large areas of dumped litter” says Ram.  Clean up on the 1st Sat of the month at 10 am at Brownsover Community Centre.

Bus Services

County Councillor Sarah Feeney will be sitting on the bus improvement committee and she needs your views about the bus services.  Please let me know what you think services can be improved.  “Warwickshire’s residents are being asked to help shape an ambitious plan for the future of bus services in the county.  We really want to know your thoughts.”  Email me on: sarahfeeney@warwickshire.gov.uk

Community and Crime

Cllr Jim Ellis was really pleased to talk to local residents during the Neighbourhood Watch afternoon.  Residents reported working together often informally and in a spirit of goodwill to ensure the safety of each other.  Police marked bikes and allowed the kids to press the Sirens on their cars.  We apologise to the poor woman at the bottom of the street who got a surprise the first time this happened.  But fun was had by all.  Your Labour Borough Councillors are in direct communication with local police and RBC anti-social units.  Contact them on: Jim.Ellis@rugby.gov.uk
