An open letter to Mark Pawsey MP for Rugby, and to the Leader of the Conservative administration at Rugby Borough Council:

We all followed the lockdown rules, however difficult that was for us.  Some of us worked on the frontline, and I use that term deliberately, and we were exhausted and shocked by it.  We did not join our co-workers at the end of a long day to socialise.  We did not have leaving do’s, or Happy Birthdays at work.  We do not need to describe the family tragedies that obeying restrictions made worse.  Many of us know first-hand what that was like.

We adhered to the letter of the law.
We are horrified that the Prime Minister, the Chancellor and scores of others at Number 10 did not.

Those who make the laws must keep them.
There are no excuses that are acceptable in any circumstances, but in the context of over 175, 000 deaths in total and a currently rising weekly death rate, how can we be expected to trust anything this government says?

We call on our MP and the leader of the Conservative administration on Rugby Borough Council to make their opinions on this issue clear.  People in Rugby need to hear that our own elected leaders believe in the rule of law.
