Britain has a lot to be proud of but it does not have a Government on the side of working people and
their families.

People who work hard should be secure prosperous and respected but the Conservatives
are not standing up for working people. While prices are rising in the supermarkets, at the petrol pumps
and in our electricity bills the Government has chosen to put up National Insurance at exactly the wrong
time. At the same time as they write off billions in fraud lost to criminals.

People are working hard to stand still: wages are not going up and small businesses are struggling
to turn a profit. At the same time, crime is high and too often people don’t feel safe and anti-social
behaviour is out of control. The Government is not in control and working people are paying the price.
Everyone deserves a government that puts the rules in place to be secure, prosperous and respected,
but while the Government expects the British people to work hard and do the right thing, it is not living
up to its responsibilities.

The Tories have broken their contract with the British people. It is time to send the message that this is
not good enough. It’s time for a change. Taxes, prices and crime are all going up under the Tories.
It doesn’t have to be like this. People who work hard for themselves and their families should be able to
afford the everyday things they enjoy: a comfortable home, a holiday, a meal out. Everyone should be
able to go about their lives feeling safe, secure and valued.

Labour councils and councillors have shown how this can be different. In your community Labour put
people first, fighting back against the epidemic of anti-social behaviour, protecting services and standing
up for working people and their families.

Britain needs a Government that is on the side of working people and their families and has an ambitious
and practical plan for Building a New Britain. Labour’s contract with you will be based on three principles:
security, prosperity and respect.

Labour has a plan to cut energy bills by cutting the VAT on your bills paid for by a windfall tax on energy
companies. Labour has a plan for better pay and more secure jobs. Labour has a plan to cut crime by
introducing police hubs in every neighbourhood paid for by scrapping the Government’s vanity yacht.
Labour will get Britain back on track.

As a country, we should be as excited about our future as we are proud of our past.

A vote for Labour in May is a vote for a party that is on your side. Labour Councils will prioritise your
security, your prosperity and respect for you and your values.
