Labour will launch a National Excellence Programme – the most ambitious school improvement plan in a generation.

This will boost the number of outstanding schools across the country and drive-up standards to make sure every child can achieve their full potential.

Labour will launch a £347 Million Teacher Recruitment Fund to fill over 6,500 vacancies and skills gaps across our schools to ensure your children are taught by skilled, expert teachers.

This will Drive-Up school standards and enable Ofstead to enhance its focus on schools which are underperforming and support schools to put in place plans to deliver sustained changes.

We would fund this by ending tax exemptions on private schools.  The tax paid by private schooling will then assist children in state schools.  So every child has equal access to the very best levels of education.  The National Excellence Programme will boost the number of outstanding schools in the country.  It will drive up standards to allow your child to reach their full potential.

Labour would make sure every child leaves school life-ready

Every child, regardless of their background, should have equal access to a good education and get the qualifications and skills they need for the future. Labour would make this a reality:

1. Practical life skills

Labour would make sure the national curriculum includes practical life skills. School kids would get education in credit scores, applying for a mortgage and understanding employment and rental contracts.

2. Qualifications for good jobs

We should be inspiring school kids to reach their full potential. Labour would make sure no young person leaves school without getting the qualifications they need to thrive.

This starts with providing £250 million to local authorities, to re-engage with 16 – 17-year-olds who are not in education, employment or training.

3. Work experience

Labour would introduce two weeks’ worth of compulsory work experience for young people. Connecting young people with local employers means they build the skills needed for work.

4. Career advice

With Labour, young people will get access to professional careers advisors one day a week in school.

This will give every child the opportunity to get professional advice on their future.

5. Computer skills

Access to digital equipment is vital for children’s success. Labour would make sure every child has access to a digital device at home.

And this extends to school too. Digital skills would be embedded across the curriculum, to ensure a whole-school approach to developing digital skills.

6. Children’s Recovery Plan

As we recover from the pandemic every primary and secondary child should have access to after school clubs.

This could include the Duke of Edinburgh award, sports clubs, drama and music clubs, debating or book clubs.

Labour will launch the most ambitious school improvement plan in a generation. This will give every parent the opportunity to send their child to a great state school.  With Labour, no-one will be left behind
